Motion R&D Software Developer

The Motion R&D department is responsible for creating, maintaining and supporting the tools/pipeline used by the Motion Realm - Animation, Motion Editing, Facial Motion, Crowds, and Previs. Our role is to enhance the abilities and capacities of these departments.

As a graduate of a Computer Science (or equivalent) degree, you will apply your knowledge to:

Help provide timely support for active productions
Design and create efficient tools and workflows
Enable and empower artists to achieve their best results
Work with adjacent R&D departments to pipeline the delivery of internal products.
In the beginning, you’ll learn and familiarise yourself with our vast codebase (a mixture of legacy and new) by helping our artists on the Support queue and reducing support by hot-fixing and lodging issues to our development backlog. Then, drawing from this roadmap-driven backlog, you will work closely with a team of software developers to complete tasks focused on delivering the highest value possible to our users.

You will also work alongside the Pipeline, Engineering, Rendering, and Research departments.

You will be proficient in:

Python, C/C++, Qt (including PyQt/PySide)
Git version control systems
Software Engineering principles (including architecture and design patterns)
Verbal and written communication with developers, non-technical people, and leadership to understand feature requests and solve production problems
Additionally, you would be:

A champion for root-cause analysis and critical thinking
Self-motivated, proactive, adaptable, and a passionate team player with collaborative dev experience
Able to thrive in fast-paced/time-critical environments
Able to gather requirements and user feedback independently
Familiar with unit/integration/regression/acceptance testing
Bonus:

Strongly familiar with JIRA/project management systems
Practical experience with C++ multi-threading and performance optimization
Experience with Machine Learning
Experience with Autodesk Maya, including scripting and programming plugins
Experience working at a VFX or AAA Game Studio
Familiarity with any of: Animation, Motion Capture, Facial, and Crowd pipelines
